Melbourne Wearable Art Series #1 - Hans Van Weerd

A$1,890.00

Ten years ago, I moved from The Netherlands to Melbourne, that
wonderful city with its unrivalled penchant for the arts. Settled down in
Newport, I sketch, I draw and I paint.
I am fascinated by people’s faces, physiques and postures. what makes
them the individual persons they are and by their interaction with their
surroundings. As a biologist however I am equally eager to depict the
natural world, with animals being my other passion.
I always carry a notebook with me, drawing wherever and whenever I
can. Pre-COVID I could be found most Saturdays in the studio of the
Victorian Artists Society in East Melbourne. I am also a member of the
Hawthorn Artist Society.
I regularly exhibit my work, at the Victorian Artists Society and
elsewhere.
I was invited to exhibit at the 2017 Hannah Russell Look at Me!
exhibition at the Oak Hill gallery in Mornington (VIC), was selected for
the 2017 St Johns Southgate Art Prize in Southbank (VIC), the 2018
One Man Show group exhibition at the Town Hall gallery in Hawthorn
(VIC), the 2019 Now, West group exhibition at the Longspace Gallery in
Newport (VIC), the 2019 Whitehorse Art Show at the Town Hall gallery
in Boxhill (VIC) and the SMALL group exhibition at the
Fortyfivedownstairs Gallery in Melbourne’s CBD. I was a finalist in the
2019 Naked and Nude Art Prize of the Manning Regional Art Gallery
(NSW).
In 2020 I was selected to have a stand at The Other Art Fair in Sydney.
Also in 2020, I was elected Signatory Member of the Victorian Artists
Society.
In July 2020 I was Artist of the Week in the ART/EDIT Magazine; in
August 2020 I was featured in that same magazine.
A solo-exhibition at the Fortyfivedownstairs Art Gallery in Melbourne’s
CBD took place in October 2020.

Hans was also nominated as a finalist for the 2021 SBS Portrait prize.
